I’m Sandra Piddock, and I’m a freelance writer, dividing my time between Spain and the UK. I’ll write about anything that interests and/or challenges me, and I like to focus on the lighter side of life whenever possible..
Why the Psycho Psychic? Because a good friend came up with it as a joke, and it seemed to say it all. I love life, but never take it or myself seriously. Some people find that hard to handle, and think I’m crazy. Maybe I am!
Since I qualified as a psychic intuitive and clairvoyant a couple of years ago, Spirit have been amazing, allowing me to help so many people with messages of love and guidance. I want to share my experiences with you here, and also demonstrate how you can tune into your own psychic ability to enhance your life and heal yourself and others physically, emotionally and spiritually. Love and blessings.
As the lock-down due to the Covid-19 outbreak continues, our mental health is taking a bit of a hit. No matter how positive we are normally, all this isolation and bad news is sure to take its toll. Strangely enough, when things seem at their worst is the very time when we should be looking for the good in every situation.
If you think that’s a really big ask, well, yes it is. But it’s well worth the effort, because cultivating an attitude of gratitude is a very powerful self care tool. Let’s look at the practicalities – it’s impossible to feel grateful and negative at the same time. If you don’t believe it, just try saying ‘thank you’ out loud and see what happens, physically and emotionally.
For a start, you can’t say ‘thank you’ without smiling, even slightly. And just the sound of the words is enough to lift your spirits. As you say ‘thank you,’ you feel yourself standing straight and tall, lifting your head, and at the same time, you feel a positive shift in energy. That’s the beginning of gratitude.
So, how do you build gratitude into your life? It’s simple really. Whenever you feel down, upset, depressed – any sort of negative feeling – think of three things that make you happy right now. It can be as basic as a nice cup of tea, just when you need it. Maybe your child or your partner brought you tea and biscuits in bed. Look at all the things you have to be grateful for. You have a comfortable home, a family who care, and the time to enjoy your tea and biscuits before you need to do anything else.
Now we’ve covered the practical side, what are the spiritual benefits of an attitude of gratitude? Under the Law of Attraction, the thoughts and feelings you put out into the Universe attract more of the same into your life. So if you count your blessings, you will attract more reasons to be cheerful into your life. So it makes sense to send out good thoughts, and nip the negatives in the bud.
One of the best ways to do this is to use positive affirmations. This can be a simple phrase you repeat to yourself, or it can be a sort of positive prayer, where you don’t ask for help, you say thank you for the good things. You don’t need to say this out loud for the Universe to hear you – your thoughts have enough energy to carry them where they need to go. And you don’t need fancy words and phrases, or to use religious terminology. All you have to do is feel the gratitude in your heart.
I was talking with a friend a few days ago. He’s a successful businessman, but he feels for his clients, who are all worried about how their own businesses will manage to ride out the lock-down. When you’re an empath, you can worry about others as well as yourself, and it’s very draining energetically.
As I was talking him through some coping strategies and exercises to raise his vibrational energy, I was given an affirmation, channelled through Archangel Michael. I was told to share it with him, and also with others who might need to be reminded that an attitude of gratitude can strengthen your soul and help you through the dark times and bring in more success. I suggest you print this off or write it out, and read through it when you need to.
You may wish to carry it with you. Words are like crystals – they carry healing energy, and if you keep them close to you, you may feel extra benefits. When you want to read your affirmation prayer, find a quiet space where you won’t be disturbed, and take a few deep, calming breaths, as if you were preparing for meditation. I like to hold a hand over my heart, and visualise the words coming from my heart, into the air around me.
Love and blessings, and I hope this beautiful affirmation prayer, channelled from Archangel Michael, brings you comfort.
Affirmation for gratitude and success

Thank you, Universe for the abundance in my life right now
If you’re wondering about the title, it’s a line from a lyric from a song written in 1931, and also the name of a time-travelling sitcom. Goodnight Sweetheart, the show starred Nicholas Lyndhurst, who played Rodney in Only Fools and Horses, as Gary Sparrow, a music shop owner. He accidentally found a time portal which took him back to London in wartime, and ended up with two relationships, one in the 1940s and one in the 1990s.
Goodnight Sweetheart was one of Tony’s favourite TV programmes – and mine. It’s an appropriate title for this post about my personal goodbye to my estranged husband. Although we had been separated for a year, it wasn’t a case of me airbrushing him out of my life. We were together for 30 years, married for 20, and for at least 25 of those years, we were very happy together, until age and illness took my husband from me, leaving an uncaring, somewhat frightening stranger in his place.
Since Tony’s passing, I feel like I have the old Tony back – caring, happy, and sorry for the circumstances that caused our split. His energy came to me before he passed, asking for forgiveness, and since he passed, he’s been back several times as the warm, loving, husband and partner I fell in love with all those years ago.
Don’t get me wrong, he had his faults – don’t we all? – and I’m not canonising him just because he’s on the other side of life. My point here is that what those of us who are privileged to ‘talk to dead people’ already know is true has been demonstrated to me at first hand. You do leave all your pain and troubles behind when you step through the veil. We often say ‘his cares are gone now,’ when someone close dies, and it’s lovely to be reminded of that on a personal level.
Losing someone in lock-down is surreal, as many people have sadly found out. The usual type of funeral is out of the window. You can’t have limousines, because of the risk of cross infection through close contact. Also, you’re limited with the number of people who can attend, and they must be socially distanced if they are from other households.
It was clear that there weren’t going to be many guests at Tony’s funeral – I refuse to use negative terms like ‘mourners’ for the attendees. When you’re 86 and have been ill for a couple of years, and have spend most of the last decade in Spain, there aren’t that many friends left, and those who might have come are shielding at home. Also, the thought of not being able to have a comforting hug when you need it most is just unacceptable to someone like me. I would be a strong contender for the gold medal if hugging was an Olympic sport, and they weren’t cancelled because of Covid-19. But I digress.
Someone suggested it may be better to just have a cremation with no service, and that felt better to me, but I wanted to say a personal goodbye to Tony, as I hadn’t been with him when he passed. I would have been, given the opportunity, even though we had lived apart for over a year, but it wasn’t possible. And even though I know that what’s left behind is only Tony’s shell and his soul is free, I felt his circle of life was incomplete without an earthly farewell.
Graeme at West Country Funeral Services in Saltash said he would conduct a commital service in the Chapel of Rest, for up to 10 people, but again, it would have to be a socially distanced affair. I decided Graeme would be, to quote another song lyric, Playing to an Audience of One. I invited nobody to the service on 12 May – not even Glenys, who has been such a support over the last few difficult years.
In preparation , I printed off one of my favourite photos of the two of us, taken in 2015 at Algorfa’s patronal festival. On the evening before the service, I was given a poem by Spirit which Graeme read out, as well as another poem that I feel was suggested to him, as it addressed a concern with bothered Tony quite a bit.
When he was well, Tony liked to be busy, pottering in his shed or the garden, making things, problem solving, you name it. He’s not the type to sit on a cloud with a harp all day, and I felt him around me at the weekend, rather agitated. He asked me what he was supposed to do now, and I explained that time was for us on Earth, it didn’t apply to him now, and he would never be bored, only happy and healthy.
One of the lines in the other poem – His Journey’s Just Begun – speaks of the other side of life as a place ‘Where there are no days or years.’ There is no such thing as coincidence in the Universe – Graeme chose that poem because Tony needed to hear that message.
The energy in the chapel was amazing, full of warmth and love. And when I told Graeme I wanted Tony’s favourite song played, there was some laughter too. The song doesn’t appear on any list of Most Popular Funeral Songs, and it’s not surprising really, given the back story.
Back in the late 1960’s, Tony went on a lads’ night out with his local social club. The highlight of the show was a stripper, dressed in full Welsh national costume. At the end of her spot, all she was wearing was the iconic tall hat and a smile! Every time Tony heard the song she performed to, he smiled, thinking of where he first heard it. It was the 1968 hit by O. C. Smith, The Son of Hickory Holler’s Tramp, and although it was a solemn occasion, we both had to smile.
So, it was nothing like a funeral service, but it was everything I needed for my personal farewell to someone who was part of my life for almost half of it. We made some wonderful memories together which will always be with me, and we had a memorable ‘hasta luego.’ too. I am at peace, Tony is at peace, we have both learned valuable Earthly lessons, and we can both move on, on both sides of life.
I am content, and so is Tony. Goodnight sweetheart, and I am so pleased that sleep has banished sorrow for both of us.
There is no doubt we are living through an unprecedented situation unknown in peace time. And no matter how positive you try to be, there are always going to be times when you are anxious – for yourself, for your loved ones, and for the general situation as a whole. This is where cutting energetic cords can come in useful. I was given this visualisation by Spirit for Covid-19, but it works for any situation where someone or something is draining your energy and making you feel anxious.
Basically, cutting energetic cords can help if there is something playing on your mind, whether it’s in the present, like the Covid-19 outbreak, or in the past, but still affecting your life now. Focusing on past or present worries robs you of the joy of now, and if there’s nothing you can do to alter the situation, it’s pointless wasting energy on it. Negative energy, in thought, word or deed, has a habit of reproducing and attracting even more negativity into your life, so it’s something that needs to be addressed sooner rather than later.
Archangel Michael is the go-to angel for cord cutting, and this visualisation will help you to do just that. When you cut the energetic cords to a person or situation, it doesn’t mean you no longer care, and it doesn’t airbrush anything out of your life. What it does do is allow you to detach from the energy around the situation, and see it for what it really is – something you couldn’t change or control, which doesn’t have an important place in your life right now.
When you cut energetic cords, you feel a lightness and clarity of thought that wasn’t there before. That’s because you set the intention to detach from it. You can’t control or change what’s happens, but you can control and adapt your response. Once you realise that you can’t do anything, no matter how much you want to, whatever you are detaching from loses its power to impact on your life in a negative way.
As someone classed as vulnerable because of an auto-immune system condition, I can’t do what I want to do, and get out and volunteer my services to those who need them. However, I can use my psychic and healing skills to help people cope emotionally and spiritually with isolation and worry.
A friend who was weighed down with anxiety because she was caring for an elderly relative, and her daughter was facing danger every day as a key worker, asked me to help. I wasn’t sure where our session was going, but I did feel that a cord cutting exercise was needed. As we talked, I was given this visualisation by Spirit. It is specifically to cut the energetic cords of the Covid-19 situation, but it can be adapted to anything that is causing you concern.
So, let’s work through this together. You may want to record this, so you can play it back and focus all your attention on the visualisation. Or you could copy it out, read through it a couple of times, and then try it for yourself. However you do it, it’s a very powerful visualisation. Are you sitting comofrtably? Then we’ll begin!
Cutting the energetic cords of Covid-19
Begin by closing your eyes and taking a few deep breaths in through the nose to the count of three, hold for three, then exhale through the mouth to another count of three. Imagine breathing in love and healing, and breathing out tension.
Now invite Archangel Michael to come into your presence and wrap his protective wings around you. You may feel a different sensation to alert you to his presence, like warmth, or the pressure of a hug, or even a sense of peace and calm. Don’t worry if you feel nothing – you can be sure he is with you, because when you ask the Angels to come forward to help, they are obliged to do so.
See before you a small black dot in the distance, something like a full stop, which as it comes closer quickly develops into a large black ball, about the size of a football. You notice that there is a thick string attached to the ball, and although you can’t touch it, you know it is really strong. You also notice flecks of red in the ball, and you feel a threat from it.
As the ball stops, a few feet away from you, level with your heart, you recognise it as Covid-19, waiting to overwhelm you with worry and fear.
Now ask Archangel Michael to cut the literal cord attached to this situation of fear and isolation with his Sword of Light. Look steadily at the black ball, and inwardly tell it you will not allow it into your mind or your life. Watch as Archangel Michael severs the connection with one blow of the Sword of Light.
Feel your spirits lift and your soul strengthen as the black ball floats slowly and harmlessly into the distance. It may have rushed towards you, but know that as it floats away, it has lost its power to rob you of your peace of mind.
Thank Archangel Michael for his help, and bid him farewell for now. Enjoy the new feeling of lightness and happiness as you bring your awareness back to the here and now.
If you are feeling really overwhelmed, you may need to do this more than once to clear your mind and heart. And of course, it’s still vital to practice caution by following expert advice on minimising the risks to yourself and others.
If you see something other than a ball, that’s okay. It’s your visualisation, and it’s the cord cutting itself that matters. And the lighter feeling you get as a result.
Another step you can take to distance yourself from the energy of Covid-19 is to draw it, as I have, in a way that makes it less threatening. I’m the first to admit I am no artist, but I deliberately set out to do a child-like representation of the visualisation. That again robs it of its power to cause anxiety, by making it look ridiculous while treating it with respect.
Let me know in the comments how you get on with the visualisation, and remember, the Angels are always there, waiting to help. Love and blessings to everyone at this challenging time. Stay safe and well, and be kind to yourself and others. This will pass, and we will all be stronger for it.
There’s a song called Happiness, made famous by Liverpool comedian Ken Dodd way back in 1964. The first line describes happiness as ‘The greatest gift that I possess.’ While I love the song, I take issue with the sentiment. Happiness is within us, whenever we want it, so it’s not a gift, it’s as essential to a healthy life as your heart or your kidneys.
However, while the organs work automatically for our benefit, happiness isn’t something that can run in the background. You need training to use it, so I see happiness is a job for life, with a pension that you are able to draw on from the minute you tap into your own happiness.
In his comedy routines, Ken Dodd talked about ‘exercising your chuckle muscles,’ but happiness isn’t a physical state, it’s a state of mind. so you don’t need to head off to pump iron at the gym in order to be happy. You do have to recognise that you, and only you, are responsible for your happiness though.
You won’t be happy when the Neighbour from Hell moves 100 miles away, or when your child graduates from university with a First, or even when you meet the love of your life. You see happiness does not depend on the presence or absence of people or things – it depends on your state of mind, and your ability or otherwise to live in the now. If you are constantly looking back to perceived better times, or forward to a future of happiness and hope, you are missing out on the things that would make you happy right now, in this moment, if only you brought your attention to them.
See happiness as a vocation – something you will be doing for the rest of your life, because it’s something you love to do, and something you would do, even if you weren’t paid for it. Of course, if your performance doesn’t come up to scratch, you are either sidelined for promotion, or you are sacked. So work at being happy – not by forcing it, but including it in your routine until it becomes as natural as breathing.
Employees at the top of their game are an inspiration to others, and this brings job satisfaction in its wake. So there’s a feelgood factor about being the reason that someone else is happy. Look on it as a productivity bonus – although there is no salary for the job of being happy. Other than a lifetime of positivity, of course – which is beyond price.
So, look on being happy as an astute career move, when all the work you put in is acknowledged rewarded, and the working conditions get better and better as you move up the ladder. When you find yourself having a problem maintaining happiness, examine your options. Check in on your inner Human Resources, and find help and inspiration. You are entitled to happiness – it’s your job to be happy. Remember that.
Fast forward to the teenage years,
and we become desperate to be one of the crowd, so we resist anything that
identifies us as different, and therefore Not Cool At All. Going into adulthood, there’s the fear of
being thought ridiculous, so again, we push down our natural psychic abilities,
until we get to a point where life is so challenging, we wonder how we are
going to cope.
When we’re at our lowest point, and
we are feeling lost and helpless, with nowhere to turn, the survival instinct
kicks in, and we finally start to think outside the box in an effort to solve
our apparently insoluble problems. It’s at this point we remember that we are
intuitive beings with psychic abilities that can align us with the energies of
the Universe in order to turn our lives around and live in joy and abundance,
as we are meant to from the moment we
become incarnate on Earth
The good news is, you don’t have to
wait until the excrement hits the mechanical ventilation system before tuning
into your psychic abilities. Once you know how to recognise the signs, you can
harness the wisdom of the spirit world and your own inner knowledge to become
more creative and productive, and achieve a balanced state of being.
These are the main indications that you are ready to tap into your psychic powers to enhance your own life quality and help others to do the same. Don’t worry – you don’t have to do tarot readings or bring your best friend’s Aunt Edna through from the other side of life unless you really want to. And it’s never too late to begin your spiritual journey by developing your intuition and psychic abilities.
Everything happens for a reason, and everything happens in divine timing, for the highest good of all concerned. If you notice any of these changes happening in your life, you are ready to connect with the wisdom and energy of the Universe.
You have a positive attitude, and an aversion to negative people
Psychically aware people pick up on non-verbal signals from others, even
if they are strangers. Their attitude to life is habitually positive, which
means being around negative people is energetically draining. You may find
yourself reorganising your friends list so you avoid spending time with anyone
who is always complaining, or seems to thrive on drama.
Being positive doesn’t mean not being realistic, but those who are developing their psychic abilities look at things differently. They see life’s challenges as opportunities to learn and grow, and never cast themselves as victims.
People who were once good friends may seem to have little in common with you as you become more spiritual. Your psychic powers are awakening, and your focus and perceptions are changing as a result. You will find yourself connecting with people who may not have entered your radar in the past. Pastimes and possessions that once meant a lot to you are not so important as the focus of your life moves away from the material towards the spiritual.
If you’ve ever been somewhere for the first time, yet can find your way
around as if you know it well, that’s déjà vu. The phrase comes from the French
language, and literally translated it means ‘already seen.’ You may have
visited the place in a dream, or even in
a previous incarnation. The same thing applies if you meet someone for the
first time, yet feel you know all about them, and it’s a clear sign of developing
Deep intuition is similar, yet different. If the phone rings, and you know who it is before you even pick it up, or you already know what someone is about to say before they even open their mouth, it’s intuition. This is not just a case of happy coincidence or a ‘great minds think alike’ moment. It’s your psychic powers surfacing.
You experience frequent, vivid dreams
During sleep, your conscious mind is
inactive, and there is no resistance to intuitive feelings. When you need to make
a crucial decision, there is a conflict in your mind between intuition and
logical thought, or the ego. We’re conditioned from an early age to go with the
logical, reasoned option, even if it may not be the right choice for you at
that stage of your life. In the sleeping state, you surrender logic to higher,
more informed levels of consciousness.
Your dreams can help bring a
different, deeper perspective to your waking thoughts and actions. It may be
insightful to keep a dream journal, so you can analyse how your dreams align
with life events and waking thoughts and actions.
These are the early but significant signs
of psychic development to look out for. It’s a perfectly natural process, and
there’s nothing strange or even scary about it. We are all privileged to have this gift from
the Universe, and it’s up to us to use it wisely for the benefit of ourselves
and everyone around us. Namaste.
As more and people turn to spirituality and move away from recognised religious practices, the concept of prayer is changing too. Traditional formally worded, one-size-fits-all prayers are making way for more heartfelt, personalised, spontaneous requests for divine help, and all you have to do is to ask the angels. It really is that simple!
Angels figure in many religions and belief systems, and have
done for millennia. The term itself derives from Greek and Latin roots meaning
‘messenger.’ With the exception of Sandalphon and Metatron, who were incarnated
as the Biblical prophets Elijah and Enoch, angels have never existed in human
This distinction is emphasised by the fact that all the
other members of the Angelic Realm have names ending with the suffix ‘-el,’
which means ‘God.’ Therefore, angels are messengers between Heaven and Earth.
The most well known messenger is Archangel Gabriel, who announced the Nativity
of the Messiah.
Angels may be from a higher realm, but they are always instantly accessible. Under the Universal Laws, if anyone asks an angel for assistance, they are obliged to help. However, they cannot just step in and fix everything, because it would interfere with the exclusively human prerogative of Free Will. Such action would disrupt the delicate Spirit/Human balancing act. We need to face up to and overcome challenges in order to learn and grow, both spiritually and emotionally.
Angels can and will come to your aid, but it may not be in the way you envisage it. The Universal Laws dictate that the solution to your problem must be for the Highest Good of all concerned. If you’re thinking to put out a Celestial Contract on a troublesome ex partner, the angels can’t deliver.
That’s a shame from some perspectives, because angels have no use for cash, and they can’t give evidence against you or be judgmental. However, the ex may suddenly get an offer they can’t refuse which means relocating, so everyone gets emotional space and nobody gets hurt. That’s the way angels rock, and it’s a lot less messy as well.
For the angels to help you in the best way possible, you must trust them to do the necessary to ensure the best outcome for yourself and others who may also be affected. Don’t give them a wish list to work from, because what you want isn’t necessarily what you need for your soul’s growth. They can see the bigger picture, including the pitfalls associated with your requests.
So, how do you talk to the angels? In the same way you’d
talk to any other friend. The difference is, you’ll hold the conversation in
your head, and it will be a monologue rather than a dialogue. Start by asking
the angels to draw near. If you have a particular intent, you can call on a
named angel, such as Raphael for healing, Chamuel for love, or Michael for
justice and protection. Otherwise, just inwardly ask for anyone who can help to
step forward, and outline your problem.
Keep it positive, because the thoughts you put out are the
ones that will be returned to you under the Law of Attraction, so be careful
with your phrasing. And remember, the angels know what you need most to be
happy and fulfilled, so take a leap of faith and allow them to work their
Remember to show gratitude for all the good things in your life – waking up every morning is a bonus, after all! Then thank the angels for their help, and look for signs to show your prayers are being answered. You may experience synchronicities, where events just slot into place, or people come into your life just when they are needed.
You may see patterns of repeating numbers, or hear the same song on the radio often. You may even see repeating symbols, like birds, butterflies or rainbows. When these things happen, notice where you are and what else is going on around you, so you can play your own part in co-creating your best life.
Asking the angels for help in manifesting abundance and happiness is as natural as calling in a plumber to fix a water leak. You don’t need to use special words to make yourself understood, because they are the experts, and they know what you need.
Remember to approach the angels with love and gratitude in your heart as you ask for their help. Never request anything that would harm anyone – yourself included. Work with the angels for the Highest Good of all concerned, and live your best life. You know it makes sense.
Mai Griffin is an artist and author who is based in Javea, on the northern coast of Spain’s Costa Blanca with her daughter, Gaile Griffin Peers, also a writer. The ladies are also involved in publishing. I met them for the first time in 2017 at a writing conference in Velez Blanco, Andalusia, where Mai gave me a copy of her novel, Ghostly Echoes, to read and review.
Life got in the way, so it was just a few days ago that I finally picked up the book to read. The main characters in the novel are Sarah Grey and her daughter, Clarinda – Clarrie for short. Sarah is a gifted psychic, but doesn’t like to brag about it, and Clarrie is also blessed with the gift, but sees it as more of a curse and tries to ignore it. However, as experienced psychics and mediums know only too well, if Spirit want to work through you, they won’t be ignored.
Sarah sometimes works with Alec, a Police inspector and good friend, giving him insights into difficult cases. In this book, the first in the series of ‘Grey’ books, a child is kidnapped, another child and a young boy die, and in the course of the investigation, a trio of unrelated murders are solved as a bonus.
Mai Griffin is a master of storytelling, elegantly weaving a multi-faceted tale spread over a number of years and locations, including Wales and Spain. There’s just the right level of suspense as the story unfolds, and the reader is quickly drawn in. It’s an overworked phrase, but I really couldn’t put this book down. All the characters – on this side of life or the afterlife – are well crafted and engaging, with a couple of notable exceptions. The reader just knows these men have ‘dunnit,’ just not how or why, and that’s just a small part of the overall picture.
There’s a nice balance between fast-paced action and reflection, and what really sets this book above other ghostly tales is the way the spiritual angle of the story is presented. As a psychic herself, Mai has excellent insight into the way Spirit work, and how mediums bring messages to the living. She cleverly illustrates how those who try to use this special gift for personal ends can come unstuck when ego comes into the equation, demonstrating beautifully that not everything is always as it seems, on both sides of life.
As well as being a rattling good yarn, Ghostly Echoes gives interesting insights into the world of spiritualism, and debunks many of the myths perpetrated in other novels and on screen. Sarah and Clarrie are ordinary people with extraordinary talents. Life hasn’t been kind to them – they are both widows – but they’ve found inner peace and fulfillment in their new lives.
Mai Griffin writes with an authority and humour gleaned from almost 90 years of experience of life and its idiosyncracies and synchronicities. As a bonus, even the book blurb is hilarious. Ghostly Echoes actually started life as Deadly Shades of Grey, long before the last three words were preceded by a number and given an altogether different meaning.
There may be no spurious sex or sado-masochism within its covers – Javea’s not that sort of place, and Mai’s not that sort of lady – but Ghostly Echoes has much more going for it. It’s a well crafted tale, with just the right balance of humour, action, authenticity and reflection to satisfy the most discerning readers of crime fiction. I can’t wait to read the rest of the series.
I regularly see evidence that lots of people don’t fully understand how the world of Spirit works. Furthermore, they are unsure whether a medium is good, bad or indifferent. The situation isn’t helped when some mediums talk themselves up into something they most definitely are not. To get the best guidance from psychics and mediums, there are a few things you should consider.
Each of us has psychic ability, but whether we are aware of it or know how to use it is something else. There’s a school of thought that psychics are made and mediums are born, but I dispute that, and so do most people I know.
There is a distinct difference between working psychically and working as a medium, but both of these intuittive aspects of spiritual work can be enhanced with training. This article explains the difference much more clearly than I can, but in nutshell, psychics work mainly with the living, drawing on guidance from the other side of life, while mediums actually blend with the energies of those in Spirit.
All psychic work is based on energy. In fact, the Universe is all about energy, because even inanimate objects have an energetic vibration. It’s tuning into these energies that helps psychics and mediums to bring you information and advice that is readily available to you, as long as you know how to access it .
In psychometry, the energies of a piece of jewellery or another personal possession can reveal a lot about the owner, and it’s also possible to do a psychic reading from a photograph. Mediums and psychics who work with law enforcement agencies can connect with the energies of items belonging to missing people or murder victims and provide evidence that is impossible to glean from other sources.
So, there’s a lot that mediums and psychics can do, but what can you expect from a reading? More importantly, how can you tell if the practitioner is genuinely gifted with psychic abilities? Those seeking help from the world of Spirit are often traumatised and/ or vulnerable, so it’s important that those they seek help from are well placed to deliver it.
Someone who talks about ‘their’ gifts, without listening to what you need from your reading is motivated by ego to some extent. We do not decide to work with Spirit – we are chosen. And we are mere channels for everything that comes through. The Upstairs Team are the ones calling the shots and directing the action. The psychic or medium you connect with should not be on a power trip – your reading is all about you, not them.
Another misconception with mediums is that they can call up the spirits of loved ones to order. No medium, however well connected to Spirit, can guarantee to bring through your father who passed a few weeks back, or Great Aunt Agatha, so that you can thank her for leaving you all her worldly goods.
In fact, we can’t guarantee to bring anyone through, because Spirit will not come through for a third party just to say hello. It takes a lot of energy to speak through someone else, and they will only come through with an important message that they need to pass on. Spirit can – and do – visit loved ones often, and you may sense them around you, even if you don’t consider yourself to be psychic.
Some of the information may be trivial, rather than jaw-dropping, and that’s usually just to confirm your loved one really is around. I had a gentleman come through for someone in the audience at my first demonstration of mediumship, and I had difficulty pinning him down to a member of the audience, as he’d passed some time ago. I asked for an up to date confirmation, and he told me about a friendly disagreement about how carrots should be prepared for cooking. From that, the right person was able to take the message, even though she had never known the messenger from Spirit in life.
Working with Spirit is so much more than just ‘Talking to dead people,’ although that’s a common misconception. It’s about helping the living to deal with their challenges and make the best choices for themselves and those around them, but a lot of people are sceptical about this.
When I was attending psychic development training, my husband was very sceptical, and always had a sarcastic remark ready for me to come home to. One day, he asked if I’d been talking to my father, who passed many years before we got together. ‘Yes, I have,’ I replied. ‘He’s really looking forward to meeting you next week.’ There were no more silly remarks after that, and my husband was very subdued over the next few days!
That anecdote wasn’t just to make you smile – although laughter raises the vibrations. It links neatly to my next point. No psychic or medium with any integrity will deliver bad news. Spiritual work is about upliftment and easing worries, not causing more stress or heartache. All genuine messages from Spirit are positive, so you won’t be told you have inoperable cancer, or that Uncle George won’t be coming to your Christmas party because he’ll be with the Angels by then.
That doesn’t mean to say it’s all sweetness and light. If you need a warning from Spirit, you’ll get it, but the medium or psychic will deliver it in a positive and empathetic way, so as not to cause further distress or worry. For example, you might get a message that the pain in your chest needs investigating, so get it checked out so you can get the right treatment. You will only receive information that is in your best interests.
Having a reading from a medium or psychic, whether one to one or at a demonstration, should be a positive, fulfilling experience. If you know what to expect, and if the practitioner is working with humility and love, it certainly will be. Go to your reading with an open mind, and prepare to be amazed!
I’m really enjoying reading oracle cards, for myself and for other people. I love the way so much information comes through, and the illustrations on the decks are inspiring and beautiful. Until now, I’ve been a bit nervous about reading the tarot, although I love it when friends read the cards for me. I’ve felt somewhat intimidated by all the traditional meanings – oracle cards are much more flexible, and there are less of them to shuffle!
2020 will be my year of action, when I venture out of my comfort zone, try new things, and strengthen my connection with Spirit. This is my year to master the tarot, and I’m thinking outside the box, because that’s how I rock! I really need to get familiar with all 78 cards in the Major and Minor Arcanas, so when I saw the Biddy Tarot Planner, I thought it looked like a fun way to learn more about the tarot, and also about myself.
Brigit Esselmont – aka Biddy Tarot – is an Australian lady with a unique, refreshing and enthusiastic approach to reading and interpreting the tarot. She makes it accessible to anyone, and the planner is a great way to connect with the cards, and also to learn spreads and how to read them. You’ll get to understand different ways to connect with the prevailing energies of each month, taking in astrological and planetary influences, moon cycles, crystals and rituals. It’s not all about the cards: using the planner encourages personal growth through regular spiritual practice.
I didn’t discover Biddy Tarot and her planner until just after New Year, when I was looking for ways to boost my tarot knowledge, so I have only been using the planner for around two weeks, However, the difference in my understanding of tarot, and myself is already marked, so I have great hopes for the rest of 2020.
There is lots of space for journalling about your daily life, intentions and reflections, your summary of 2019, aspirations for 2020, and plans for achieving your goals, learning lessons, and releasing negativity to align with your best life. You’re encouraged to reflect on the lessons of the past, interpret the cards you draw, and apply these insights to your daily life to bring more positivity and abundance into your life.
As I was late to the party, so to speak, I wondered about doing the early January spreads and exercises. A quick message to the Facebook Support Group, to which all tarot planner users have access, soon reassured me that the spreads weren’t cast in stone. Therefore I could go ahead and work with them when I wanted to.
A few days ago, I decided to work with the 12 card New Year Spread – which can also be done on your birthday, if you prefer. I was just blown away with the results. From not even attempting to read the tarot previously, in two weeks, I was able to interpret the cards without even looking at the guide book.
The way the planner is set out, there is a box where you can write your findings for each of the 12 cards. Each card has a particular meaning, such as ‘Lessons learned in the past year’ and ‘What empowers you in reaching your aspirations for the year.’
In each case, I connected with the energy of the card and wrote down my insights. Then I looked at the card, to see what else I could glean, before checking the information for each card in the guidebook of my chosen deck, ‘The Good Tarot’ by Colette Baron Reid.
The ‘Lessons’ card suggested I’d learned to step back from people who didn’t want to be helped, and that I was stronger than I thought, so I could do anything I set my mind to. I turned over the card to discover it was ‘Strength’ from the Major Arcana, which indicated that I had dealt with challenges with courage and perseverance, and nothing could beat me. This was confirmed in the guidebook, so I was really pleased with my intuitive skills.
Basically, the book confirmed what I’d gathered from the spread on all 12 cards, giving me a positive and insightful reading for 2020. I was really impressed. After just two weeks of drawing a card each day, setting intentions and reflecting on how the events of the day had mirrored the insights of the card, here I was, doing an accurate 12 card reading for myself.
In September, I was reading oracle cards at a charity event, and one sitter’s husband said, ‘Fancy letting a deck of cards rule your life.’ As I explained to him through gritted teeth, cards don’t rule your life, but they can enhance it by giving you insights, guidance, hope and encouragement. The 2020 Biddy Tarot Planner is giving me insights, guidance, hope and encouragement as I begin my journey with the tarot, and it can do the same for you too. Check it out and see what you think.
Meditations and visualisations are excellent for many things, so it’s a good practice to set aside some time each day to meditate. Whether you use a guided meditation by someone else, or just create your own scenario to quiet your mind and maybe do some inner healing or energy clearing, you will feel the benefits, so give it a go. Yesterday, I was messaging my friend Pam Goodall, who leads the spiritual circle I sit in, and I was feeling a bit sorry for myself, as I seem to be getting one infection after another just lately.
We were talking about the new ascension energies coming in for 2020, and the need to clear stuff from this life and past lives, and between us, we started visualising what would turn into a beautiful meditation.
It was a moving, powerful experience, which I’d love to share with you all. I have been thinking about writing my own meditations for a while now, but hadn’t got around to it yet, for various reasons. I’m really pleased with this one, and I feel motivated to write more .
Meditation is an excellent way to focus your mind, clear it of chatter, meet spirit guides, angels and loved ones, or simply relax. You don’t need special equipment or music – just a quiet, comfortable space where you won’t be disturbed Switch off your phone, or leave it in another room where it won’t disturb your sacred space.
Make sure you are neither too warm nor too cold, and have a glass of water handy. It’s best not to drink alcohol before or soon after meditation, as some intense feelings can come through, so keep a clear head. Also, don’t eat a big meal just before a meditation or visualisation. You will feel sluggish, and therefore won’t reap the full benefits of the experience.
Use this script, or anything you are drawn to. It’s a good idea to record it on your phone or another audio device, so you can play it back to yourself, rather than having to refer to the script and lose focus.
I found I felt lighter, happier and more at peace after going through this visualisation. I hope you enjoy the experience too. Love and blessings.

consciousness. Step inside, and allow this golden light to open, clear and
cleanse your 5D chakras. Start with the Earth Star, beneath your feet, the Root,
at the base of your spine, the Sacral, between the Root and the abdomen, the Navel,
at the navel, and the Solar Plexus, between the navel and the heart.
Now open the
Heart chakra, at the heart, the Higher Heart, just above the heart, the Throat
chakra, at the throat, the Third Eye, in the middle of the forehead, and the Crown
chakra, on top of the head. Bring the light of Christ consciousness into your Causal
chakra, a foot above your head, the Soul Star, two feet above your head, and
finally the Stellar Gateway, three feet above the head.
yourself connected, Earth to heaven, heaven to Earth, totally connected,
totally protected, totally safe. See before you a beautiful purple staircase,
with gold trim on the edge of each step. It’s not steep – it’s a gentle,
gradual climb, and at the top of the stairs is healing and clearing, and alignment
with your Higher self. Feel the atmosphere around you – calming, nurturing,
loving, healing – as you glide effortlessly up the stairway.
At the head
of the stairway, see before you a giant, emerald green pyramid. It’s a Healing Pyramid, and as you approach,
the door opens and Archangel Raphael’s
Healing Angels greet you to escort you in. There are many large emerald beds,
and you are invited to lie down and make yourself comfortable. The bed feels
soft and welcoming, although it’s made of crystal. Relax, and bathe in the
restorative atmosphere of gold and violet light.
and Zadkiel stand at the head of the bed, and Jesus approaches the foot. His
golden light of Christ consciousness enfolds you, and you look up, and see
another bed overhead, similar to the top bunk in a set of bunk beds. In it is
your Higher Self, and your own bed rises, so you can blend with your Higher
Self in love and perfect alignment.
lighter and lighter, and your bed circles around the Healing Pyramid, before
heading to the open door. You see a long line of people outside. You can’t see
their faces, but you know they are people from your past, present and future
lives, and you know you that you – and they – must sever any and all energetic
chords so you can all heal and move forward.
Michael to help you with this, and observe as, one by one, the chords are cut,
and the people in line are able to move into the Healing Pyramid to access
their own beds, and their Higher Selves.
You float serenely
across the night sky on your emerald bed, and notice the numbers 2020 picked
out in stars beneath you. You thank Raphael, Zadkiel, Michael and Jesus for
their love and healing, and descend into the star pattern, feeling joyful and light
as you return to your body in the present moment. It is done.
